I think it's because when I was at primary school in the late 80s / early 90s all of the teachers had horrid tight little perms like that and it makes me cringe. Maybe what I'll do next time is take it out as soon as I get up, so if it's before work I can see what the droppage is like after an hour - unless anyone can suggest how to get it looser?

A suggestion for making it looser! Try it with hair thats damp and not wet, think half/three quarters dry to just kinda set your hair.

Fatter socks will make the curls less tight. I think it looks good though.

I made it damp and used a teeny bit of setting lotion. Not sure how I could work it with different socks Tweetyeti - it's different lengths from front to back so it was difficult trying to get it into lesser socks - if you know what I mean! Thanks tho people :) x

Thank you people! It lasted for a good long while as well, I took the socks out about 7am, and I think they finally started to drop a little by about 4pm, but only a smidge really - and it was really hot in my office that day. All in all I was pretty chuffed, the one thing I'm curious about now is if I wanted to do this for say a weekend evening, how long would I have to leave them in for.....any thoughts anyone? x

about an inch past my ears in front and about half an inch past the base of my skull at the back.

It could work, but it would be tricky. And the reaction from my OH just wouldn't make it worth it lol

This didn't work for me. Only my tips curled and the curl brushed out. Which is really weird because rag rolling usually gives me awesome dolls curls that last days. Maybe I didn't get the hair wet enough.
