Long time blue hair and wanting to change it
« on: 22 Jun 14 / 11:02 PM »
SOOOOOO, hey. Heres the thing, I've had lots of different colors over the years but my favorite so far was blue, lots of people know me by my blue hair :3 but I kinda got tired of it and tried purple, Plum directions, but it just faded to green and blue and it was a total mess and left me a bit ceptical, so I turned back to blue again.
Now I started to fade the blue but it kinda WONT go away, I did a bleach bath and several washes with head and shoulders soap and baking soda, it was dark blue, and is now a wierd turquoise at the ends and greyish green at the roots, im just wondering could I cover up blue/greenish hair with Cerise or any other strong pink from directions ? and maybe Violet too ?

a big thanks for the help, need it ):
btw: it has faded a bit more since I took the pictures.

I would try a colour remover, i have had success getting green staining out with them in the past. Cerise or Rose Red would definitely cover the turquoise, although it will be more towards purple if the turquoise is still quite strong.

Those colors are all so pretty! I understand wanting a change though :) A lot of people have been having trouble fading the new formula of Directions Plum (fading to blue/turquoise on most). Cerise would cover any of that, as well as Rose Red. I think their Violet fades kinda fast and would just make it more blue looking because of the green.

There's a lot of other things you can do to try and fade it more though. There's a lot of fading treatments on here, you could make up your own, there's non damaging color removers like One n Only Colorfix, Colour B4, Jo Bazz, Color Oops, Decolor Remover, Provoke, etc. Even if the remover itself doesn't take out a whole lot, I found that after doing a color remover, fading treatments seem to work really well.

Here's some of the basic fading treatments:

And here's some more intense ones:

You should be able to get it at least a few shades lighter by doing some of these

Always remember to consider what your hair is going to feel like after processing it BEFORE you do it! Test strands, treatments/oils are important when it comes to hair, but the most important thing is patience!

I would also consider trying a color remover if I wasn't worried about the damage which I read was quite significant, and haven't considered Rose Red yet (because of the name mostly) and I'm quite fine with it ending up a bit purple actually, I'm just afraid it turns out brownish in the areas my hair's a bit grey ): Wicked Pixie

Aw thank you, they all look terrible on me though ahah, I think I'll skip the Violet and just stick with Cerise or Rose Red as long as it doesn't fade to a brownish tone (??) and I did try some of your fading tips and it worked wonders until now, it just wont come off ): but it's quite a bit lighter
I'll consider getting a color remover if it won't make any damage then (: thanks so much for the help guys

Colour removers are non-damaging, but they do dry your hair out like any fading treatment. They are different from colour strippers, which do damage your hair.
Rose Red is a lovely deep neon magenta that fades pinker, it has the worst name, it is not red at all.
I don't think it will go muddy, I have put very diluted rose red over faded turquoise and only got lilac shades, if you are going for a deep pink they cover most bases.

I would second rose red, I have my hair this colour at the moment and it really is lovely. I also used it over faded blue/green before and it came out a beautiful purple colour.

I think I'm really going for that one, maybe mixing a bit of flamingo pink or cerise (if avaiable) just to get it pinker,  as soon as i get a chance to go purchase them, no dyes nearby ):
thank youu

If you want it pinker I would suggest adding rose red slowly in to the flamingo pink, because if you add flamingo or cerise  in to the rose red then it will just eat it. Rose red is REALLY highly pigmented.

Yeah, I agree. I've just mixed rose red with some other pinks and used barely any of it, but it's still mostly rose red colour!

I can promise you there is no red in Rose Red, it only comes out reddish if put over orangey bases.

No, you won't get that colour with what you have now. You need a white base for colours that pale. Stick to the vibrant pink plan.

Yeah sorry, I had a really pale base under this. I was just showing it has no real red tones at all.

Sorry I've got nothing helpful to add, but Marthakins, this expression makes me LOL - I love it!

I seriously couldn't agree more, I hate trying to look nice in photos.
