Faded green hair, want to go back to brown.

Hi everyone, my hair is currently a faded Directions Alpine Green over a white bleached base but it's time for me to go back to brown. The green is very stubborn and hardly any came out when I used Colour B4 last week. My hair dresser suggested a cleansing shampoo treatment but at 70$, it's a little out of my price range. I've already tried semis to no avail.

I'm wanting to know whether I can just use a brown/red box dye over it or wether I should bleach it again and start from there. I just had my hair cut and it's in pretty good condition due to coconut oil treatments + general good care of my hair.

The photos are taken in evening natural light, my hair is a little more faded than they let on. Nearer to my roots it's a more golden green colour. I'll add the pics in a new comment.

Thanks so much. :)

What shade of brown are you hoping to achieve?

You can try to fade down the green more with clarifying shampoos (you can buy cheap ones at your local shops, no reason to pay a ton of money for a salon to wash your hair with one).  We also have a How To Fade Hair Colour thread that you may find useful.

You don't need to take it blonde to get to brown, especially since you want a red based brown from the sounds of it.  You can either put a red over your green, which will make a sludgy brown, and then put a medium brown or an auburn over that, or you could dye over your green with a deep auburn, which should neutralise the green as it dyes.

I agree with the advice Intemp has given, but would advise you use a demi permanent (24 wash, deposit only) type of dye with a low vol peroxide rather than a permanent box dye. You don't need the level of lift a permanent provides, and it may reveal the underlying green tones.

Aw, yeah, I didn't mean to imply use of a permanent dye--I meant a semi like Adore or a demi.

Artists like Katy Perry and Kesha have flaunted a literal rainbow of hair colors, but don't let their forever-changing styles (and team of personal stylists) fool you into thinking that dyeing your hair a similar hue will be easy. There are tons of glamorous, colorful locks on Instagram, Tumblr, and so on, but as this set of rainbow hairstyles pics revealed, a lot goes on behind-the-scenes of a really great selfie.
