Styling tip for wavy hair
« on: 28 Jan 14 / 09:33 PM »
OK so maybe you all know this, but I've reached the age of 37 and never knew it until my hairdresser told me the other day! I like my wavy hair but I've never got the hang of styling it properly: if I try to blow dry it wavy it goes fluffy and if I let it dry naturally it goes frizzy. But if you wind it in inch-wide sections around your fingers into twists and let them dry naturally it looks awesome! You have to keep retwisting as they dry but I'm dead pleased with the way it's turned out. I didn't even use any serum and I have frizz-free waves. You can also use a diffuser if you have hair that takes three years to dry like I have ;) but I'm too scared of 80s fuzz-ball hair to try that one...

(actually I had a huge amount of layers put in my hair last week and along with my undercut I feel like I've now got about a quarter of the hair I used to have - it's marvellous)

That is exactly how I style my hair, and I find coconut oil really helps to define/set the waves. I can get my hair to look quite straight with this method too, with just curls at the bottom. Left to it's own devices it is quite curly, pretty much like Shakiras.

I've never had much luck with it myself, but I might have another go :)

I love styling my hair that way! It really is an awesome, easy trick for wavy or curly hair to get those nice, clean looking waves/curls. Glad your stylist told you about it!
Always remember to consider what your hair is going to feel like after processing it BEFORE you do it! Test strands, treatments/oils are important when it comes to hair, but the most important thing is patience!

I've remembered on of the reasons it doesn't work for me. My hair took 12 hours to to dry and it was still damp at the roots (started out with thoroughly towel dried hair. My hair just takes forever to dry even though it's pretty short!

I keep smoothing/twisting, so the heat from my hands helps to dry it.

Yup I feel your pain! That's why I'm so chuffed with my new major layers. Only three hours to dry! I couldn't believe it :D
