Help with Lime Green?

Okay so before i say anything here I'll start by saying i'm a guy but i share the love for cool hair color.
For Halloween this year i'm going to go as the Joker from Suicide Squad. (Jared Leto) I have the hair length for it as i personally slick it back the same way but thats not the point here. I really want it to look good and have been wanting to dye my hair a cool color for awhile now. I was going to dye it Purple but since Halloween is almost here i thought i would skip Purple right now and go to green. Neon Green.

I've seen alot of posts to use Electric Lizard but i'm unsure if it will be bright enough. Now i could use hair spray yeah but i really don't like it. How it snows off of your head and its in different shades. Now i don't really care about what people think of me so i'm going all out and just dyeing my hair neon green but will Electric lizard be enough for that shade or will i need to add something to it? I've seen some saying to use spring green and florescent yellow for a really bright green but i'm just now getting into the dyeing part of hair.

These are the best pictures i can find to show how bright the hair is.

One with better lighting

So if i could get some help on this i would greatly appreciate it!  ;D

You'll need to bleach as well, unless you already have super pale blonde hair? Is it dyed now? What colour is it?

I've never used Electric Lizard, it looks pretty good though, but I know Spring Green by Directions gives a green just like that. It's already got a fluorescent yellow base as that's the colour it fades to!

No i have super dark hair i don't mean like black but i do mean like really dark brown then i have a blonde streak in it.  8)  So Spring Green would work the best for this without anything else? (other then bleach)

I thought i would have to bleach my hair for this. I mean i'm cool with it and I've been looking up stuff for it for a little while now. Also that was the problem with the blonde. I didn't use any bleach for it and just let the dye sit in my awfully dark hair for like 4 hours and it damaged my hair as you can imagine.

Yeah, leaving blonde dye on for more than the stated time on the box is utterly pointless I'm afraid. It stops working after a while, but carries on damaging. It was potentially very dangerous too, you could have given yourself serious chemical burns and even left scarring that would prevent new hair growth!

Has all the old blonde grown out?

Yeah its grown out now and i don't think i got any burns from it as well that i've had it for a couple months now. I've just been trying to repair what i can of it recently but when i take a shower it still kinda sticks together and makes it hard to comb.

It was a couple of months ago and it's all grown out? So it is still blonde or not? If it's more than an inch long (which apparently it is) then you do have some blonde left?

You could only get burns when the dye was on your head, so I'm not worried about it now. You were lucky. Just never, ever, do anything like that again. Permanent hair dyes are actually quite dangerous used improperly.

Well i'm not sure if grown out is the word. I still have the blonde in my hair from when it was dyed. New hair has grown under it so the roots and some above are my natural brown hair but the top is blonde still. My main hair length is about 4 inches right now so for what its worth i still have a alot of blonde still.

Ok, what I mean by grown out is all the blonde has been cut off. I guess it's misleading if you don't know that lol

So, the blonde that you have is obviously really damaged. So, whatever you do, don't let bleach on that part again. You need a good quality bleach. I like BlondeMe or Blondor and some 30 volume peroxide. Then, to get it even, you'll have to put it on the hair that's between half an inch from the scalp and the blonde you have. When that's been on for about 20 mins, then start putting it on the roots. Do not leave it on for longer than a total of 50-60 mins (depending on the instructions).

If you're not worried about it being super even and don't mind if it's slightly brighter on the roots, then put it on all the hair from the roots to the blonde. It will lift faster on the scalp, giving you brighter hair for the first half inch. It's not always that bad, but with this kind of neon green, it does exaggerate it.

You might need someone to help.

Then just slap on the green you decide to go with. Leave it for a few hours if you like, it's safe with this dye as it's not got peroxide in it, but DON'T do it with any dyes that you have to mix two parts.

... and just to state the obvious wash off the bleach before you apply the green!  ;D but don't use any conditioner after the bleach (before applying the green) as it will stop the colour from taking as well as it should.

Blondor and BlondeMe are powder bleach. You need a good quality bleach. Don't use a generic one. Seriously. I'm the queen of generic everything, but somethings you need to not scrimp on.

Never 40 vol. Ever. It should never be used on the scalp as it can cause very bad chemical burns, very quickly. I use 20 vol and I have very dark hair. I don't have much red in my hair though, which is why I can get away with 20. There's a very good chance you don't need 30 vol either (the higher the volume the quicker it works) but it's hard to guess. A good bleach is what you need. That part should never be scrimped on.

There's no need. You need a pale yellow, but then that will be fine to put the green over. You only need to tone if you're going to put a colour on that is the opposite of yellow or you want a purer blue that doesn't go turquoise. That kind of thing.

If you have any ginger left in your hair then you won't get a good green, so be very careful in the application. Ginger and green = mud.
