I've done my own hair a couple times before and went about it the completely wrong way and my hairs just died, I've given up and went to the salon spent so much money and they've also fried my hair and given me clown hair. I've waited a few year, have all new hair now and I've decided since i do change the colour of my hair quite often to lighten it now so if i do decided to go darker i have to option of using temporary hair dyes and hair colour remover instead of bleaching my hair over the dark colours.
I've bleached my hair recently with a 20% peroxide and i was so afraid that i would kill my hair again that both times i didn't go past 30 minutes and id say my hair was still medium brown with orange bits. after i bleached the second time i tried to use a purple shampoo to tone my hair and then i went in with jeval 6.80 and a 10% peroxide and my hair was still orange. *ott*
seeing as i couldn't walk around like that i put a temporary purple through my hair to tone out the orange and i have purple ends now and still showing heaps of orange but the whole colour is a bit more bearable darker brown . i bought a couple of product to redo my hair in two weeks(if my hair is in good condition).

*anyone* please if anyone could tell me how i should go about doing my hair i would very much appreciate it, I'm looking to get a dark grey but i will settle for a ash light brown/dark blonde balyage and i originally had black asian hair so toning tips would be appreciated too!
*im not against having to buy different products than what i already have just not spend so much money
please be kind i know I'm not an expert or know the faintest about hair but I've spent so much money at the salon achieving results i didn't want

Ok, to explain a bit about the process of lightening, your hair lightens through various stages as each pigment is removed so it will go from dark brown/ black to red then to orange then to gold then to yellow so if your hair is still orange then it would need further lightening to get to a yellow/ blonde base.
Purple shampoo and toner are used to tone out yellow tones in hair so they won't do anything beneficial for orange tones. You can counteract orange tones with blue but this won't leave you with a lighter or blonder colour it will make an ash brown.
Most greys and silvers need a very light yellow base as any darker yellow or orange tones will give it a brownish tint. It is best to remember that toners or tints never make your hair lighter than the base colour you have.
I believe that you can use Wella Koleston blondes with 30 vol developer but I am not sure how many levels of lift you will get (and if it doesn't lift enough you will still be left with brassy tones even if the dye is ash based) I think there is an information booklet on their website you can download that has some info.
And just a hint, it's 30 vol not 30%! 30 Vol is equivalent to 9% - just so you know what to ask for in future!
