Directions Plum Turning Blue!
« on: 29 Jul 13 / 06:29 PM »
So about 3 weeks ago i dyed my hair using directions plum over bleached blonde hair.
I mixed 3/4 of plum with lots of light blue conditioner (it looked medium to dark purple in the mixing bowl when mixed).
After dying my hair with the mix my hair looked the same colour, some times darker than the mixture i made.
How ever after that 80% of the time my hair looked blue but it was in fact purple.
Then i washed with pink slightly red conditioner and ever since then my hair has turned blue 100% of the time.
The only purple left in my hair that you can see is the first 4-6 inches of hair all over.
The more i wash my hair now the colour fades resulting im my hair now being 4-6 inches of cadurys purple, mid lengths bright blue and the rest a turquoise blue.

Should this of happened, has it happened to anyone else?
I thought directions plum was pink based not blue base.
Don't get me wrong i like the colours and the way my hair has turned out i was just expecting purple all over with a purple and slightly pink fade.
I'd tell you where the chocolate is but then i'd have to share :P

There's been quite a few people saying the same thing recently. Some of us are suspicious that there has maybe been a batch that have had the wrong labels put on as they look more like Neon Blue.

If you want to go more pink, I'd say add more pink. It's probably the only way to do it.

I'm thinking maybe adding some directions rose red or cerise.
Maybe that will make it more purple than blue.

Hmm this is strange. I also have directions plum over bleached hair, and at the front, it has turned a very bright blue. It has never faded this colour before. It was definately plum to begin with though. I have a theory it may be what happens when the sun fades directions plum instead of just general wash fade. The sun has been out a lot more than it usually is in england!

I posted a thread up about this a little while ago, same happened to me. I complained to Lariche but they said nothing was wrong (I provided batch number of my tubs) they sent me a free pot and I purchased another elsewhere, and coloured last week and it's starting to go blue again. I'm not going to use it again.

How odd, maybe this means it will stop going green when it's bleached though, if anyone does bleach it let us know what happens please?

I am v.curious.

I really love the colour directions plum is meant to go.
So i think i'm going to stop using it and try to make the colour using other dyes.
Anyone got any ideas which dyes i should use?
I'd like a pink or red base and i use mostly directions dyes.
I was think Rose Red and Neon Blue, what do people think?

Rose red and neon blue sound like a good combo :) maybe dilute both a little though so the blue isn't so strong and rose reds true pinkiness comes out as I find rose red can start off mahoghanyish.

So i tried to redye my hair a more purple colour over my faded plum that was blue.
I used: plum, poppy red, rose red, pinkissimo and white conditioner.
Mixed all together it ended up a red violet colour in the mixing bowl and looked a light bright pink on my hair.
Unfortunately my hair did not go purple.
For some reason the plum in my hair is being stubborn and not letting my hair really take on any other colour.
I just ended up with a darker more even blue.
I think i'm going to let this fade and then probably just add reds and/or pinks to it and see how that turns out.
I'd tell you where the chocolate is but then i'd have to share :P
