I did my blonde streak!
« on: 17 Aug 17 / 09:53 AM »
I've fancied a blonde or white streak in the front of my hair for years and I decided that whilst my current employer doesn't allow 'crazy' colours this would probably be a good compromise and make me feel a bit more like I'm doing something interesting with my hair!

My starting colour was a faded combo of permanent mahogany dyes and Adore Mahogany with a little bit of light ash brown/ dark ash blonde natural root.

First I did a colour before which took me to an ashy brown, thinking this meant that the box dye was all out I waited a week and then bleached bathed and found that it went a really warm gold, not something my hair usually does so I figured it still had some of the dye in it!

I did 2 more colour B4s and it went much lighter but still had a lot of yellow tones, I toned with purple shampoo and with Directions Violet and Adore Purple rage mixed into conditioner, which helped a lot!

I waited a while then did two more bleach baths a week apart (avoiding my roots which had lightened to a very light yellow very quickly) but like an idiot forgot that I had already been toning with purple so the first bleach bath turned my hair a really rather nice mint green! However as it wasn't the desired effect I managed to get it out with a mixture of crushed Vit C tablet and Head and Shoulders shampoo!

After the additional two bleach baths I realised that the lengths of my hair just weren't lifting any further, they are still a light yellow blonde, but there is a distinct line differentiating them from where my hair was virgin. My hair is baby fine especially around the front so I decided that this was as far as I was willing to go without compromising my condition!

I've been toning loads with the dye and conditioner mix and purple shampoo and my roots are a beautiful silver blonde, the lengths where the staining is are more of a pearly ash blonde but I'm happy enough with the effect and it'll only get better as it grows out and I can bleach bath the virgin roots as they come through!

I can't emphasise enough the importance of patience in doing something like this, it has taken weeks on end even just to achieve this safely and without causing too much damage (and even so I needed a little trim afterwards!)

Thank you! It's already starting to need my roots doing, but that's a good thing - means I can chop off a bit more of the slightly stained ends!
