How do I get rid of bright copper orange hair?!
« on: 13 Mar 17 / 11:07 PM »
Hi there! My name is Abbie, I'm trying to find out how to get rid of my horrible bright copper hair I have at the moment. I could REALLY do with your advise, I went to the salon to get my hair done and she did it the completely wrong colour and I'm too shy to go back as I lied and told her I loved the colour. I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips on how to either fade or get rid of it as fast as possible. I was planning on to buy a blue hair dye, mix it in with conditioner and apply all over to try and counteract the hair like a toner? I also have a dark ash brown hair dye that I might try applying but dark colours are also not a great option as I am extremely pale. I have already tried a vitamin c hair mask, squeezing lemon juice all over, using dish washer soap and a purple shampoo but it has not done anything apart from dry my hair.
I don't know how to attach a photo that isnt too big for this sight but I'd be happy to email pictures if anyone is willing to help! Please please please help!
Thanks :)

How long have you had the colour?

Blue might work. Have you tried an actual colour remover?

Is it a permanent colour you had done? What colour was your hair before and what are you hoping to achieve? A colour remover would probably be the first thing to try if it is a permanent colour.

It was permanent I believe, the hair dresser added 3 different tones of orange and red into a bowl and mixed it together and lathered it all over my hair. I was horrified. I'm not really a fan of stripping hair as Ive done it before and I had to get a bob cut as my ends were fried!
Thank you so much for replying. I can't seem to show a photo of how it was before as its not the right size or something hahaha. I would happily email any of you to show you the before and after pictures along with the ash brown hair dye I have. I had planned on putting the brown on today but I'm terrified of it turning dark :(

This isn't stripping. This is removing the colour. These products shrink the dye molecules and then you wash them out. If you let us know what country you're in we can suggest a brand.

Putting brown over will make it dark.

Upload the photo to a site like imgur or photobucket which are free. You can then link it or use the little mona lisa icon in the reply page to post the photo directly to the post you're making.

I'm in the UK  :) Thank you so much for these helpful tips! I have been out and bought a coconut oil, do you have any advise on how I could use it, I was planning on to do a hot oil treatment with it but I'm unsure how I'd go about it. I was thinking it could maybe wash out the brightness a little or just revive my dryness a bit.

Am i allowed to say I think it's very pretty...?

But I know it's no consolation when someone says that and you really don't like your hair. I've been there myself.

What colour would you most like your hair to end up being?

I too think its a lovely colour, but its not on me. That's why it looks so hideous hahaha. I believe a deeper skin coloured person would suit this and I'm ghost white! I also have braces so it makes me look extra scary and 'in your face.' I would have liked to have been a nice gingery brown but I want to scratch warm tones all together now and just be either a light ash brown or ash dark blonde... Pretty much back to how I was (but less greasy and dull as the picture  ) but that is obviously a bit adventurous I think for how bright my hair is.
I've been in touch with the hairdresser and I am going back in on Friday but she said she wont be refunding or putting another colour on so I have no idea why she wants me in. I hope she will put a stripper or toner on my hair for free since I payed 58 quid to be miserable!! I'm a push over when it comes to other peoples advise and obviously because shes a professional hair dresser I trusted her. Never again. Next time I'm not happy I will tell them haha.
Sorry for the long message

If the hairdresser does the stripping, it will be stripping and not colour removal. As you're in the U.K. you have a lot more options (for once!). There's a lot of good brands. I like decolour remover by Scott Cornwall, but it is one of the pricier ones. I used one recently that was pretty good, I think it was called 'colourless'.

I have to say though, it's not a bright copper at all. It is more of a warm brown! Fair enough if you want rid of the warm tones now, but I was expecting some super bright orange and I thought I had got my threads mixed up or something. And for what it's worth, copper hair looks stunning on pale skin. It's either that your skin tone (if it's yellow or pink timed) doesn't go with it, or as is very often the case, you just aren't used to it yet.

Thank you, and its my roots that are like a neon orange. Looks dreadful when my hair is tied back and I have dance classes so its always showing unfortunately. Sorry if i mislead you! I will try what you suggested. Thanks again!
