Directions Alpine/apple + touch of MP raven
« on: 30 Aug 16 / 06:59 PM »
So this is how it all turned out. It looks different in every light and it is MUCH brighter in person. My friend helped me and we used one tub of alpine, one apple and maybe 1,5 tablespoons of raven.

I think I would've wanted it a bit darker, do you think I could do like a dark "toner" with Raven + conditioner? Or will it all look muddy? :/

It would be nice if it could look more like the second picture :)

I don't know what colour Raven dilutes to, I would use a blue black to get closer to the bottom pic, it has a lot more blue in it than yours

According to the Beeuniqe-website Raven has a green base, does that help? Or should I buy another tub of alpine and chuck that over?

Okay. Do you have any brands that you recommend? I think I can get a hold of Directions and Manic Panic here :)

I really like Adore, they have a blue black and also nice deep blue; Royal Navy.

Looks really good! I think something with blue in would pull it closer to what you wanted though, maybe if you do it again leave out the Apple?

I'll try to buy a dark blue and mix it with the black I have. Do you think I should dilute it with conditioner too or can I pop it on my head straight on? :)

You will have to strand test to see how pigmented you need your mix. When creating your own mixes always strand test.

Well, I like it so far! I think it just looks not quite saturated enough to be honest.

I used Raven as one of my blacks now I've got most of my hair black and the pot I used was most definitely brown based, so I'm not sure if it's changed recently?

Wicked Pixie, I'll definitely strand test. I had planned to do so with this green too but I forgot in the heat of the moment.. I was so excited lol!

Miss_bluey, I'm sure you can get this sort of colour if you want :D

Janineb, This is what is says on the website but I'm not sure when this was written? "Possible results: Rich black shade which has a green base colour".

Oh yeah, I know it says that :) but it's not always totally up to date. Nickki might not even be aware when these dyes are reformulated, so wouldn't know to change it. But the one I have is definitely brown based.

Reapplying the colour you used may get it closer to what you wanted, it looks on my screen that the dye just didn't take that well? Sometimes I reapply to get a stronger shade

I just got back from my little town where I bought some blue velvet by Fudge (I think it's called) it was the only dark blue I could get a hold of here. (I didn't see your replies until I got back). I would love to get my hair a darker colour before monday since that's when I my last year of college. I know it was stupid to do a hair experiment so soon before I start, but the dye took forever to arrive so everything was postponed a bit.

So I thought I would mix the blue and the black with white conditioner and do a strand test. If that looks terrible I guess I'll try to buy more green like you said. You should know I trust you all with my hair (I almost wrote life, but I guess that too lol) and I'm just doing the blue/black mix to see if I don't have to spend even more money to buy more green dye.

I'll post the results of the strand test here! :)

I see now that I diluted the black with conditioner, that it is brown based. What should I do?

Edit: This is what the dyes look like on white paper. I'm thinking the conditioner mix would be best, but I'm afraid it will get muddy because of the brown black?

Strand test. It's about all you can do. If it's not right, wait. It might turn out ok, sometimes unexpected things happen :)

Here's the second strand test and I'm so happy! It looks amazing :D I was a little generous with the conditioner on the first one so it mostly came out blue-ish so I didn't take a picture of that one, but this one was like 50/50 blue and black and then just a tiny bit of conditioner :) I'll do a whole head of this as soon as I've finished dinner lol.

Should I wash my hair again? I used a bit of conditioner yesterday when we were done dyeing.

It is on my head right now! It looks pitch black so I'm kinda nervous but I'm thinking if it -does- turn out black, it probably takes just a few washes to make the green to come through :) Sorry about the double posting earlier also! I got a little too excited lol.

Edit: I got quite a bit of leftover dye so it's in a glass jar in the fridge right now. Is that the right way to store it? :)

Edit again: I rinsed in luke warm/cool-ish water yesterday and the result were... black. With just the tiniest hint of green. I was gutted. Fastforward to today where I, first thing in the morning, schampooed my hair twice and used hot water. So the first picture shows before and after the schampooing in bathroom light, and then two pictures of what it looks like now in daylight :) I love it now!
