Facial Toner Recommendations?
« on: 20 Mar 16 / 08:16 PM »
Hoping someone can recommend a good toner for my face? I cleanse using Johnstone cleansing wipes, I used to use Simple toner but it didn't seem to help my skin much. Also something that won't break the bank :)

If you are cleansing correctly, you don't need toners. Toners are really just for removing the last traces of the cleanser.
Alcohol based toners are really bad for skin, they are very dehydrating. Just skipping the toner can really improve your skin.
Rub the cleanser into the skin, then use damp cotton wool to remove it.  That is the professional way and is much more effective than sqirting cleanser onto a dry cotton wool pad.

Thanks for the advice, although I have tried that method using other cleansers and it has not worked. I back JSBW all the way, so will try with them.
What about moisturisers?? Any recommendations?

I have no idea what JSBW is.
I already said in your other thread, i use pure oils such as argan oil, avocado oil, etc as moisturisers

It is actually in the rules to avoid those types of acronyms and text speak, saves confusion if people actually type the words

Baby wipes are harsh and drying, a gentler cleanser will give better results.  However much you 'back' a product, it obviously isn't working for you so why stick with it?!

I have oily to normal skin, I use a little bit of organic apple cider vinegar mixed with water (I think it 1tbs vinegar to 1c water). This makes my skin feel gr8. but if you have primarily dry or normal skin, it would be too drying probably.

For toner I use a botanical toner by Anne Semonin, I currently have a free sample size bottle but it's 37 for a full size bottle when not on sale so definitely not cheap. I find that all other toners really dry my skin out or make my skin feel super oily, this makes it feel smooth.

For moisturiser I flick between Nivea rich moisturising cream for sensitive skin (white and pink tube) and aqueous cream which is one of the most gentle moisturisers out there. My skin is super sensitive though, in fact I once used a Johnsons wipe to clean my makeup off after running out of face wipes and it literally burnt my skin. I went to a gym class the next day and when I rubbed a towel on my face it felt like I'd taken my skin off. Not pleasant.

CharlotteH I find those Johnsons wipes terrible too, they bring me out in a rash that looks like little raised scratches all over my face.

Wow, didn't realise so many people have bad experiences with Johnstone baby wipes....although, I used a different kind (still Johnsons) and they were useless. The wipes I use now keep my awful spots at bay for the most part.

It's defo a case of experimenting til you find the right thing for you isn't it? Weird how things can be really good for one person but terrible for others!

I like to switch between a couple of different toners just to keep my skin fresh and so that it doesn't get used to anything. In the summer time when its crazy hot I usually go for Neutrogena Stress Relief toner, it can be a little harsh but I have pretty oily skin so it works for me. Most toners have alcohol, that's what makes them super drying for most people so I would say if you have oily skin toners are your best friend but if your more dry skin then toners are not your answer, maybe changing cleansers or adding a serum would be better. I like to use apple cider vinegar sometimes too and I found witch hazel works really well for me, best part is that its super affordable, usually only like 2-3 dollars in the US. But I think everybody's skin is different and you just experiment with different products constantly, our skin is always changing.
life is too short to have boring hair...
