Moving AGAIN. Sigh.
« on: 18 Feb 16 / 04:08 PM »
Well, it's not totally a sigh. I'm moving into Manchester city centre (Ancoats area) to the kind of flat Lee and I have always wanted to live in. A really nice open plan converted tobacco factory.

But...  :'( gotta pack up and move again for the 8th time in 9 years. Maybe one day we'll settle down a bit!   *rofl*

Still, I'm excited!

I don't know how you do it. I hate unpacking. I travel a lot and it still takes me about a week to unpack a suitcase. Couldn't imagine doing that with an entire house every year [emoji33]

Good luck with the move [emoji846]

The new flat sounds amazing. Will you be able to stay there for a while?

Yeah, well, a while for us! We're planning on 2-3 years so we can save to buy. though with the way his type of job is and the likely hood of us having to move to a different city again in a few years is quite high, so I'm still not sure buying is even the best option for us. At least we can afford to save now after years in London and even Wilmslow, which is way to expensive for what it is!

I hate moving! It's rarely been something we've wanted to do. The last two moves have been because the owners decided to come back to the house, so chucked us out (I'm being overly dramatic there, it wasn't as bad as that ;) ) and the last one Lee got a new job up here near Manchester and we were in London at the time. Another of the moves was when we were in Cambridge and he got the job in London, so couldn't be helped. The other moves were just circumstances changing so we needed a different house. One of them being my business growing, so we needed more space.

We actually spend far longer doing the packing! We started 4 weeks ago and we're not moving until the 5th of April. Our contract wasn't even up until the 23rd of April in the first place lol we just end up taking a long time over doing it so it doesn't feel as bad. Even though it does feel as bad because we are surrounded by boxes! But you know, you have to do these things to convince yourself.

I'm a wee bit jealous - I was back in Manchester this past weekend visiting some friends who live in Ancoats and it was so good having so many cool places right on the doorstep!
I have sympathy about the move though, we used to move house a lot when I was a kid and now as an adult I hate being uprooted! I moved here back in November and I still don't feel properly settled (I think some of that was the fact I moved from my parents' house though so I don't know what of my stuff came with me and what had to get left behind, so I can never find anything!) I just comforted myself with thoughts of decorating and making the new place feel more like home :)

I'm moving back up to Manchester in September and I'm already dreading the move :p

Good luck with the move though Janine! I hope it's as painless as possible.

All moved. It was horrendous! But it's all over now and we're getting settled. :)

I do! It's a little bit tired as it's about 15 years old and you can tell no one has looked after it. The paint is horribly chipped and in the bathroom has been painted with entirely the wrong paint so it's pealing horribly! We've asked permission to paint, which we got but we did also ask if we could paint some parts that are brown (with the worst chipping) white and we've not had an answer on that so we're hanging on for a while. I'm happy to do it myself, I quite enjoy DIY.

We're working on getting rid of musty smells right now though! The last guys had a towel to block out light from the Velux window and it's gross and mouldy, so that and the ensuite bathroom are the priority.

We always seem to end up fixing stuff when we move in somewhere. The previous tenant destroys and we fix. Yet we always seem to get charged at the end for dumb stuff! So annoying! I want to change the toilet seat too as it's yet another broken one that slides when you sit on it, normally pinching a bit of skin as it does!

Yeah ours is a bit like that in places as the person we bought from didn't live here full time (I'm not saying it was a tax-dodge address but...) so whilst it's not badly worn it is a bit tatty and tired in places but we're slowly making it better!

Urgh mould scares me a bit, why do people do stuff like that! And I know those toilet seats well - there used to be a wooden one at my mum and dads that had a crack in it that used to pinch bits, and quite frankly anything I'm likely to have near a toilet seat I'm not likely to want pinched!

The DIY will probably be quite fun I imagine, I quite like it myself (although at the moment we have a leak under the kitchen sink and the tap is getting air in it and making a horrendous noise and I'm not really sure what to do! I think I'll have to watch a youtube video!)
