Anyone else had this problem with their tattoos?
« on: 06 May 15 / 09:48 PM »
I keep getting this horrible hive-like rash on my tattoo. It's raised and it's SO itchy, I wake myself up from scratching it so much during the night. My tattoo is just over a year old so it's not because it's new. I have another smaller tattoo but never get this problem with it.

Some less-than-savory companies make inks with PPD in them which can cause an allergy. I'm not trying to imply that your tattoo artist was bad, just pointing the ink thing out as a possibility. Also PPD allergy can cause cross-reactions with azo dyes. Anyway, hopefully that's not it! I found a link that while not scientific has anecdotal information about people with tattoo issues that also use hair dyes (oxidative and non-oxidative):

This link discusses other ink components that could cause sensitivity or allergy issues:

Sorry about the reaction; hope you can pinpoint the issue and resolve it.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

The black lines on my ink sometimes does this for no apparent reason. It's not all my tattoos either; usually my top left arm is the culprit. It calms down after a couple of days.

So I've figured out that it's definitely the ink reacting with the hair dye I've been using. I've been dying my hair with box dyes for the last few months and a few days after dying it, I get the reaction.

There's something at work does this to me (I work in a doctor's surgery), every so often the tatt on my inner wrist raises up and itches like holy hell.
