Recently I've been using my Netflix other then for my sons entertainment lol & thought it would be a good idea to do a thread about what people recommend.

Currently I'm watching Orange Is the New Black & I'm totally 100% hooked, every spare minute I have I watch an episode or three!
Anyone else got any good recommendations?

Hemlock Grove was a Netflix series, I quite liked it but my daughter didn't. Weeds is funny (the first few seasons at least) I think you will like it if if you like OITNB. Gilmore Girls is on Netflix now (I think just the American version though) I am a huge GG fan.

I just watched a film called Mary and max on Netflix, I wasn't convinced I wanted to watch it because it was clay animated but it's really good, I recommend giving it a watch :)

@Wicked I've heard Gilmore Girls is meant to be really good, I'll give Weeds ago too.

I feel like I've heard of that before @Marthakins, I'll give it a watch!

You need to get the American netflix for Gilmore Girls (which isn't strictly kosher) the American version has about 5 times as many shows.

I don't see why we shouldn't have access to all the shows just because we are in the UK, like you say we are paying for it instead of just streaming straight off the internet.

It's all down to international copyright and licencing and stuff I don't really understand! It's the same with Amazon instant and all of the services like it. I want to be able to use Hulu, but only can through 'naughty' means and definitely can't use Hulu plus without a US address. I think one day it'll even out, I think one day they'll realise they have to. They're always about 10 years behind though in the entertainment biz.

Anyone use UnblockUs with Netflix? Somehow I have it for free, (I think you have to pay a few pounds extra) which means I can really easy change to any region of Netflix.

I've watched so many series I'm not gonna list them all xD
First few seasons of weeds were good, quite liked the beginning of hemlock grove (haven't got round to watching more) and a friend highly reccomended utopia. Mary and Max was lovely. At the moment I've been watching Broadchurch (the uk one, apparently there's an American version too) with David Tennant which is suprisingly good, and also Being Human. I'm going through a British series phase - It's refreshing for a change.

I will admit to nothing! Using something like unblockus isn't exactly the right thing to do as it's breaking international licensing (or something like that) laws...

I swear there was some weird loophole though, because I've been told even though you're not allowed to switch region I'm pretty sure unblock us isn't actually illegal. I could be wrong though, And I think they've starting changing laws and stuff anyway.

It might not be strictly illegal, but that's what a loophole is :) it is still breaking international licences (copyrights or whatever it is) if we're watching stuff from the US or whatever other country it is (I might have watched many other countries Netflix where they have a lot of different stuff with subtitles, ignore the subtitles). The studios etc need their bit of cash for everywhere it's being shown. Which is fair enough. It's a bit more complicated than just changing laws, it's partly about who gets paid, when and how. But then add in the extra info about program's or films having agreements with different TV channels over the world with exclusivity etc, that means in the UK something is on maybe Sky or something, so it can't be on Netflix or amazon. It's way, way more complex than we can even imagine,

^ This is all true. However there is very little room in my heart to feel bad for TV companies and all their money.

Lol yeah, that is true. I do have friends in 'the industry' though, and they work really bloody hard for their money. There is a lot of money in the film and TV industry, but there's (as usual) very few people who really make masses of money. A lot of the other wages are very decent, but hard earned :)

I was thinking about this earlier. The closest I can think is its like the file sharing website and torrents etc. On their own they aren't illegal, but it's what we then use them for. Using unblock us isn't illegal in itself (though I wonder what the view on masking/rerouting your IP is in law?) but what we use it for is. I've also read Netflix has started cracking down on it, probably because of pressure from the industry. The mo they feel that Netflix is allowing people to break the licensing laws, the less likely they are to give them license to show their content.

Oh I'm very aware of that, I have a lot of friends who graduated from uni doing TV stuff last year and they're all working incredibly hard to try to make it in the industry.

I meant big TV companies as an entity rather than any specific people that work for them.

The one thing we don't realise with how much money studios make is just how much money they LOSE! Projects started that never get made, projects that get a pilot and never get any further, projects that totally bomb. Not to mention the absolutely crazy money spent on marketing. It can be more than half the budget of the actual movie!

If anyone had Amazon Prime, watch The Americans. And ooooh more House of Cards at the end of this week, I'm so excited! I know not everyone has liked it, but I LOVE it :D

I'm watching once upon a time on netflix at the moment. Loving it because I watched seasons 1 & 2 when it was on channel 5, and once they stopped showing it no one else picked it up over here. So now I'm catching up on season 3 :D It's a bit cheesy but I do love it!

Oh that's on my to watch list!

I've just finished watching the 5th Season of Pretty Little Liars, I became obsessed with after the first episode!! I 100% binge watched it! I've now just finished the 1st episode of American Horror Story, my brother keeps telling me to watch Breaking Bad but I watched the first 30-40mins of it & just wasn't feeling it. Mayne I'll try & give it another go.

My hubby and I just watched The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and laughed the whole way through :)
I watched all of Breaking Bad by myself. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but by the 3rd episode of season 1 I was hooked. The character development in that show is phenomenal, IMO!

I love The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!

I've just started watching Stargate Atlantis series 1. I loved the Stargate movie, but never watched any of the tv series when they were on tv, just never got round to it. Decided to watch the Atlantis ones first just because the whole idea of ruins of atlantis seems pretty cool

Omg The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is the best XD! I put in on expecting an average but fun, maybe slightly girly comedy, but it was so much more! I ended up binge watching the whole thing in one day :p
