Manic Panic Atomic Turquoise
« on: 04 Jun 14 / 10:32 AM »
I've wanted this shade for ages! I've been battling the new directions turquoise, and the new sfx blue velvet out of my hair for ages, evening it out with blue lagoon as I go. I went back to the old bleach I used to use and it seemed to lift a lot better.
This is before (I bleached my hair in the morning and went and met my friend in town, it looks ok here but you can tell I've been feeling ill because I'd never go in with half done hair normally haha)

And after...

Wahoo it's just like old diluted directions turquoise :) maybe a bit brighter actually in the sun. It's a bit greeny at the roots but I'm ok with that!
I used one pot and it covered ok!

That's such a pretty colour on you, and I love the slightly greeny roots!

This looks gorgeous on you <3
Always remember to consider what your hair is going to feel like after processing it BEFORE you do it! Test strands, treatments/oils are important when it comes to hair, but the most important thing is patience!

So what issues did you have with the new directions turquoise? I haven't tried it, but loved the old formula.

It just isn't the same....sounds silly I know but I had a real hard time getting it out of my hair. It's stained a lot too so i will have that to look forward to later on. It was a lot greener too than previous batches too.

Hmm... I dyed my extensions with directions turquoise after I stained them light lavender and it came out green, but the thing is, there's NO green in the dye itself, it's pure blue turquoise, it just when it gets into contact with hair, it gets greenier...

In the pot I see blue, nothing greeny. Maybe I got the old verison.

Yeah probably. I found it more teal. Bought 3 pots from different places all the same. Wont be using it again as it sticks too much.

The old formula was pretty stainy, is the new stuff even worse?

Yes!!! In my opinion anyway! I think a few on here have had it be really stainy.

I don't think I will be buying any more Directions :( I have been using it since 1988, always been a huge fan, but I really don't like what they have done to it now.

I found directions' dye to be quite jellylike, not very sticky :) but then again, I haven't tried out many dyes

I think Pippa meant sticky as in the pigment 'sticks' more to your hair in the long run? I've also found this with the new formula. For me it starts off fairly blue but fades down to a teal colour with the greener pigmentation being stubborn. I ended up mixing it with lagoon blue to try and get it a bit more like the old formula. Didnt recapture it at all but it ended up looking lovely in its own right.

Meeshy, however, seems to have found a brilliant new turqouis to rock out :D looking geeewwwwwdddddd, especially how it works with your eyes.

Such a stunning colour on you Meeshy!  If only turquoises didn't make me look horrendous!  How are you finding it in terms of sticking and lasting?  I've always found that Manic panic doesn't work well on my hair at all, the only ones from their range that did work for me were the 'gel' formula ones, which were much more like the original 90's formulas.  I don't get on with their cream formulas at all.

This is sticking really really well. Bit green on the roots but I expected that. I will probably lighten the whole lot in a few weeks (I'm having the damage cut out tomorrow, mainly mechanical) so I think  ill like it even more then. I think it should fade ok too but if it sticks I don't mind (for now haha!)
