Bright pink glasses, fun or too much?
« on: 29 May 14 / 05:11 AM »
I was thinking of getting bright fuschia glasses but my friends told me they look goofy or no one would take me seriously at all especially because I am in a very conservative field. Where I am long pale blonde hair is considered out there.

I ended up getting a neutral colored frame instead but it still has the shape I wanted.

Lots of people wear bright coloured glasses, including  people who are in conservative jobs. It just depends on the person, if you like them and think they're fun - get them!

I think you worry way too much about  what other people like rather than what you like going from your other threads.

EDIT - just read that you chose the neutral ones

I think it's hard for most of us on this board to understand. The difference between conservative in the US and conservative in Europe is pretty huge. I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid if even the Queen wore pink glasses! Well, maybe there'd be comment in the papers lol but I don't think anyone would look at her and think it was goofy or take her less seriously.

Added to that, American's seem to be far more likely to vocalise their disapproval than Brits. Sad, because there's nothing to really disapprove of with pink glasses!

I'd probably wear them and I'm an accountant...that's a pretty conservative job :p

Seriously? People worry about the colour of the FRAME of their glasses? Wow, okay.

Just got prescribed light correction reading glasses (for one eye) last year, and I ordered frames in black, black/pink, brown, blue, mauve, and purple, so of course I've got frames for all outfits, warms and cools, golds and silvers. :D

Glasses are fun, they're a great accessory, have fun and do what you want!

As far as vocalising opinions, having grown up in the US and now being in the UK, I agree, JanineB!  Americans might feel less inhibited in expressing their thoughts, but I actually have found that Americans are more willing to give a positive opinion than negative; Brits just tend not to say anything most often, lol.

Oh yeah, so these two men walk into a bar: you think one of them would have ducked. ::)

Lol yes, definitely! I certainly didn't mean to imply they only give negative opinions!

I have bright red hair and dusty blue plastic frames for my glasses--I love it, it makes me feel like a superhero.  And my job?  I'm something called a Process Quality Analyst--lots of boring report writing work and coding.  Hardly a creative atmosphere!  And I've had nothing but compliments on my glasses.

I agree that you worry way too much about what other people think--at the end of the day, your happiness should be your concern, no one else's.
